DH67BL BIOS update to 0160 no boot

Hello,

I purchased a WD 3TB HD and my Win7 64bit i5-2500k 8GB RAM computer wouldn't recognize it (tried level 0's, init drive, GPT partition, etc) so WD told me to update BIOS. I updated to 0160 and now my computer will not boot. I tried downgrading BIOS to 0156, removing CMOS battery for 1h, setting BIOS back to default, BIOS recovery, without luck.

How should I proceed? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Justin

Hello jlosacco,

It is important to mention that if the motherboard BIOS chipset is updated jumping from the original BIOS version to the latest version, the BIOS chipset can crash. This is because every single BIOS update contains new fixes and changes.

If you have as an example BIOS version 102 and you install the version 0160 (latest) it will change a lot of configurations inside the system.

Since you updated the BIOS to the latest version and this issue appeared, I suggest you doing the following:

  1. Disconnect all components from the motherboard and take the unit outside of the chassis.

  1. Clear the CMOS by removing the BIOS jumper and removing the battery for about 15-20 minutes while having all other components disconnected from the motherboard.

  1. Flash the BIOS using the F7 method and the original BIOS version if possible.

Kevin,

Thank you for the response. I will try this when I get home. Is there a way to determine what the originally-shipped BIOS was? I was reading that after upgrading to 0151 and beyond, it is impossible to downgrade to BIOS 0132 or earlier.

Thanks again,

Justin

Thank you, Kevin.

Last night I did as you recommended--I removed the motherboard from the chassis and removed all wires, RAM, BIOS jumper, and CMOS battery. After ~1h, I plugged in the RAM, BIOS jumper, CMOS battery, main board power, fans, and F7 flashed 0160 (No HDDs, PCI add-ons, audio, FP USB, etc). At this point, I powered off, plugged in my C drive, and powered on. The system still will not boot. I ensured that SATA is configured to IDE and not AHCI.

When I get home today I will re-do this operation without RAM (I don't know if that had any effect on the operation).

Do you have any other suggestions? Assuming my original BIOS was one of the ones you listed, it looks as if reverting is not possible due to the reason I stated previously. I am stumped.

Thanks for your help,

Justin

So I redid the procedure without luck. I am at a loss and considering purchasing a new board. Any other tips?
