DQ35MP BIOS update has no effect

Jump to solution

Im trying to update the BIOS on a DQ35MP to the latest version. Ive tried both the express update and the ISO bootable CD both have the same effect - the update program runs and the machine shuts down, then nothing.

It doesnt reboot after 3 mins (or even after an hour) and pressing the power button has no effect. If I disconnect the AC power I can reboot at which point I get a message saying BIOS update failed, but the old BIOS still works.

Ive reset everything to try and clear the AMT. Any ideas why this won't update? Its running a Viglen customised BIOS at present, I wondrerd if they'd put some sort of lock on it?

Hello Andrew, if your BIOS has an 86A on the string, it is a retail motherboard and you should be able to update the BIOS, but if not, only the system manufacturer can provide you with a BIOS update.

If it does haven an 86A, then try the BIOS recovery method with a flash drive. You can find the instructions at the following web site:

Regards.

Thanks for that tip. It does contain 86A, its JOQ3510J.86A.0882.2008.0423.1925 so I should be able to update it?

The problem I have is that it cant 'see' the Haiku bootloader on the MBR of the hard disk. It will boot the Haiku live CD bootloader which I can then use to fireup the kernel on the hard disk but it wont boot the hard disk itself. The MBR on the hard disk is fine because it will boot perfectly on another machine.

I had hoped updating the BIOS would fix this but it seems it wont let me do it. Possibly the board is just screwed?
