DZ77GAL-70K memory error on boot (3 beeps)

Recently bought a DZ77GAL-70K motherboard to replace the motherboard in my son's PC. Bought the card specifically because it would use his current CPU (Intel i7 3770K Ivy Bridge) and existing memory DDR3-1600. However when everything is in place the computer will not boot, it give 3 beeps several times and reboots. Tried different memory that I believe is DDR3-1333 and same beeps. If I try to boot with no memory and of course three beeps. I really don't won't to buy some more RAM just to see if that is the problem. Thanks.

Hi,

The three beep code means you have a problem with memory, in other words, the processor and motherboard are communicating each other.

I just checked board and processor are compatible with minimum BIOS version 21

Please check information: http://processormatch.intel.com/Processors/CompatibleProcessors?componentName=dz77ga70k http://processormatch.intel.com/Processors/CompatibleProcessors?componentName=dz77ga70k

Additionally, please check the list of troubleshooting details for this no post issue: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/desktop-boards/000005660.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/desktop-boards/000005660.html

Robert,

What is the part number for the DIMMs you are trying to use? The DIMMs must be able to operate at 1.5V; there is no support on this board for lower voltage DIMMs.

Allan,

Thanks, I had checked the CPU compatibility when I ordered the board. I looked again and it was listed on the link you sent.

Scott,

Thanks also, the RAM is 1.5 V.

I decided to punt, I'm sending the motherboard back, put his computer back together and bought him a new one. Thanks again.

Intel still make motherboards? Or is this just an Intel chipset?

It was a motherboard, it was one of the few that met the requirement for CPU and ability to use a GTX 970 video card.

No, Chris, Intel no longer makes Desktop Boards. This is one of the Desktop Board products that they produced before they shutdown the business (they last produced boards with 8 Series chipsets for 4th generation processors). There still seem to be some boards available in the distribution channels, grey and resale markets...
