DZ87KLT-75K: Continuous Restart Boot Code 0x55

Hi and thanks for the help!

I have a machine that has been working for the past week without a single issue. On Friday night I restarted the machine and have not been able to boot it since. The machine powers on and starts a boot sequence, but nothing shows up on the monitor and eventually the machine will power down and restart itself.

When the machine is booting it gets hung up on a boot code of 0x55 for about 10 seconds and then restarts. This usually continues indefinitely. I have gotten a 3 beep code a couple of times, but not every time. Everything else seems normal - I even see the Memory Init LED blink quickly and then stay solid green.

Here's a few things I've tried with no luck

- I've tried removing power and the BIOS battery overnight.

- I removed the graphics card, hard drives, and all connections to the motherboard besides power and 1 RAM stick.

Specs:

- PS: Corsair AX860

- RAM (x4): G.Skill SNIPER, DDR3 1866, 8GB (F3-1866C10Q-32GSR)

Like I said above, this had been working just fine before suddenly stopping one reset and hasn't recovered since. Any guidance, known issues, or suggestions for other things to try is greatly appreciated.

Last night I tried upgrading the BIOS. I pulled the correct jumper and tried both a USB drive and a CD. Neither option seemed to reload the BIOS and the restarting behavior was unchanged.

Does anyone know what the 0x55 boot code means? That may point me in the right direction. I didn't see that boot code listed in the technical product guide for the DZ87KLT-75K, so I'm not sure what that means.

I understand you are not getting the computer to boot. I am sorry about the trouble.

Please test your computer without memory. If you get 3 beep codes this means a problem might be related to the physical memory, you will need to test one stick of memory at a time.

Did you try BIOS recovery? This is a simple process that may help even if there is no video at all.

Allan, thank you for the reply.

When I remove all memory modules the system immediately starts the 3 beep code sequence and displays 0xFE for a POST code.

My problem does not seem to be memory related. As best I can tell the PCIe bus has acted up and does not appear to be recoverable. This is my guess based on the 0x55 POST code that the system hangs on during boot.

I've tried recovering the BIOS, but haven't had any luck. It doesn't seem to be getting far enough for the reload routine to take over.

I contacted Intel support. He stated the 0x55 boot code indicates a hardware problem relating to the PCI buses. This is a physical problem (not recoverable by software updates) with either the motherboard or the processor.

The recommendation was to return/replace the faulty items.
