I have dh61ww + i3-2120 + 4gb DDR3 ram system.
Looking to upgrade the ram to 16gb but am confused because in user manual, it says 4gb ram technology maximum 2DIMM?
what are my options here ?
Shall i do 4gb x 2 ?
or i can do 8gb x 2 ?
When they say '4Gb memory technology', they are referring to the capabilities of the individual DRAM components (chips) used on the DIMMs. Using DIMMs with 4Gb memory technology, it is possible to reach 8GB on a single DIMM and thus 16GB is achievable.
It is your choice, you can go for 2x4GB or 2x8GB. If you go for 2x8GB, you have to be careful to not choose DIMMs that use a larger memory technology.
My personal opinion is that neither choice is going to provide you with the system speedup that you are really looking for - and worse, you are purchasing DDR3 DIMMs that will not be useable in any future system upgrade. To me, this is a waste. It is time to upgrade your system to something more modern.
Hope this helps,
