I have a DX79SI MB with non-ecc ram and it runs just fine. However when I try Samsung M3938B1K0DH0-YH9 ECC ram it will not post. The specs say it should support either, Am I missing something?

HI Buford,
Let me help you with this.
I can confirm that this motherboard supports ECC memory and Non ECC based on the Technical Product Specification of the motherboard on page 11.
You can check it here:

I know the spec sheet says it does. However as I stated in my original post mine does not. Is there something else I need to do or is there something different wit the Samsung memory I am using.

Based on the memory specifications it seems it is an ECC memory but the motherboard supports ECC and non ECC so either ways the memory should be working. I would recommend you testing the motherboard with a different memory (brand and model) if possible to discard any compatibility issue with the system.
Another good step is to confirm with the manufacture of the memory if there may be a problem with the sticks so running a diagnose test would be good.
