Event Viewer: irstrtsv error: Unable to read LBA sector via passthru

I have a DZ77GA-70k MB running Win7-64 and RST Raid-1.

I was troubleshooting another problem and I see this irstrtsv error in the Event Viewer.

"Error: Unable to read LBA sector via passthru. : The request is not supported."

The first 6 irstrtsv errors after system startup are:

"Error: Unable to read LBA sector directly. : The system cannot find the file specified."

Then the balance of the errors have the passthru reference.

My system has been running for over a year (since Jan2013) and this error started on Jan.10, 2014 of this year.

I do not see a performance issue due to the error and the problem I was troubleshooting deals with Windows Backup: VSS, SPP errors when the backup fails to complete.

This irstrtsv error occurs when the system starts, there is a cluster of 6 errors in a few seconds, then repeats every 5 minutes with another cluster of 6 irstrtsv errors and continues until I shut it down.

A couple of days ago I upgraded the RST to the latest driver 12.8.0.1016 and that did not solve the problem.

I don't remember changing the system BIOS or RST configuration or loading any application in January or in or around 1/10/2014.

Any thoughts.

Thanks,

Rod...

Thanks for coming back to the community.

I understand you are getting some errors related to Intel® Rapid Storage.

I would say if you are not getting any performance issues or is actually affecting your computer at all, this is just SMART errors reported by event viewer.

Please try installing the latest Intel® Rapid Storage version 12.9, this is available here:

Allan,

Thanks for the reply,

I updated to RST v.12.9 however the new version did not completely solve the problem.

Currently, Event Viewer consistently shows a cluster of 3 irstrtsv errors every 5 minutes.

I checked irstrtsv in Computer Management - Services and this Service is running and starts automatically.

Service description: "Flushes dirty pages on entry to Standby"

I tried a Diskeeper boot time chkdsk and defrag folders and that did not end well as the check disk corrupted the Win7 start up and resulted in a BSOD and I had to run chkdsk from Win7 install DVD - System Recovery Tools to get the Accelerated RAID-1 drives back.

As I get more time I will keep troubleshooting the LBA issue.

Thanks,

Rod...

Hi Folks,

This Thread is a few month old and m6bigdog didn't do a response again. So I have the same problem with a Asus H87M Pro MoBo, Win7 Prof. 64 on an Samsung 840Pro SSD and no RAID. My event-log is gettin longer and longer with this above error-message and I could not find a way to fix it by myselfe. So I also opend a ticket today via telephone to the german support center. The man on the hotline was very helpfull, bud he had never heard bevore from this problem. So I hope, that someone from the Intel-Support could help me with this problem?

Thanks a lot and many greetings from good old germany ;-)

Thanks for the information.

Does this error message cause any performance issue?

Typically the errors reported on event viewer are just SMART errors but do not cause any problem performance issues.

I have not seen a loss of performance, but I would like to know why the error message is repetre every 3 minutes, and if it's possible to solve it.

Thank you for your help Allan.

You may need to check for customized Intel® Rapid Storage from your computer manufacturer or wait for new versions on https://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx Intel® Download Center

Any updates on this issue?

This is the closest thing I could find for the error I am getting:

Error: Unable to read LBA sector directly. : The parameter is incorrect.

I have installed the latest drivers and am still seeing this.

I also have the same issue. I'm running a SSDMCEAC240B3 SSD inside a Intel NUC D54250WYK.

I'm running the latest RST v.12.9.

Or should I try the newer version 13.2 listed above (The Intel Driver Update Utility does not show this newer version).

Found a newer version of the RST software (13.6). https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24779/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver Intel® Download Center - RST 13.6

However, the problem still persists!
