HDD's apparently can be cloned for use in a new computer provided the instructions sets are compatible. What are the compatibility rules?

I have been told the above is true - subject to updating drivers for new machine. If so, how can I tell if the instruction sets are compatible?

DavidNElliott, you can clone the operating system into a new drive if the operating system in the old Hard Drive was installed in the same computer, with the same BIOS settings.

In regards of compatibility, it is advised to check with the system/motherboard manufacturer for the list of validated drives.
