Latest BIOS 0054 for D54250WYK broke VMWare 6.7 update 3 compatibility

Since Intel posted below security advisory recently and found my NUC, I have been updated to latest BIOS 0054 on D54250WYK.

After that, I can't install VMWare ESXi 6.7 update 3.

Security Advisory:

BIOS 0054:

When I tried to install VMWare ESXi 6.7 update 3, following message is displayed:

Shutting down firmware services...

Page allocation error: Out of resources

Failed to shutdown the boot services.

Unrecoverable error

Repro step:

  1. Download VMWare ESXi 6.7 update 3 ISO from VMWare site

2.Mount the downloaded ISO image

3.Attach USB stick and format the USB Stick as FAT32

4.Copy all files in mounted drive in step 2 to the attached USB stick

5.Update BIOS to 0054

6.When finished, press F2 to enter BIOS to load factory setting

7.Press F9 once you entered BIOS to load factory setting

8.Press ESC to exit BIOS

9.When you exit BIOS, select Save

10.PC will restart, press F10 to enter boot menu

11.Select USB stick that you copied files in step 4

12.VMWare installer will run [repro here]

I know this NUC is no longer suppored already, but breaking compat is serious issue. Because I was able to use with older firmware. 0053.

Please report this issue to the in charge of firmware develop team and fix this issue ASAP.

Hello RC350,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

As you pointed out before, the interactive technical support for Intel® NUC Kit D54250WYK has been discontinued, so we are moving this thread to the Intel® Desktop Boards forum and to the Discontinued Products forum for peer-to-peer support.

You may also find the Discontinued Products website helpful to address your request

You can verify this product's discontinuance status at > Product Status > "Discontinued".

Also, it is worth mentioning that BIOS updates are provided as is and will not be supported with any additional functional, security, or other updates.
