I am trying to locate a BIOS update for my Intel Lexington 3 motherboard.
Model number: IUMV21014665
Motherboard: Intel Lexington 3
AA number: A57887-302
Current BIOS version: MV85010A.15A.0041.P05
I am trying to upgrade to http://www.ebay.com/itm/320843500998?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT this cpu, so I need a BIOS version which supports it (preferably the latest version). The current BIOS version I have does not support it.
I have scoured the internet for over an hour and a half, and found nothing. The motherboard was pulled from an old Gateway desktop, and neither the Gateway nor Intel websites have been helpful thus far.
And yes, I know I am trying to "upgrade" to a Pentium 4 in the year 2014.
Thanks so much for your help!
Hello Phillip, thanks a lot for posting your question at Intel communities.
Bear in mind that this processor is from an OEM system, therefore the BIOS version you are looking for has to come from them.
I would recommend you checking with the computer manufacture so they can let you know if you can upgrade your processor or any other device.
Please check with them if the Pentium 4 is fully supported by their motherboard. If not, it will be necessary to get a board also.
Thank you for your reply,
I am aware that this is an OEM board. However, since the motherboard was pulled from the original PC (I assembled this PC from parts), I have no clue as to which specific model PC this came from. And since Gateway's website only lets you search for downloads by model/serial number, I have no means to get a BIOS update from them. Even their support system requires you to input your PC's model number, which I do not have. Moreover, they only provide support for PCs under warranty, which my motherboard is most certainly not.
To the best of my knowledge, the processor to which I am trying to upgrade is compatible with my motherboard, I just need to update my BIOS.
So at this point I am at a loss as to what I can do to get a BIOS for this thing. Any more ideas?
Phillip, if you want you can send me a picture of your motherboard, including the marking and I can try to search for information about it.
However, I want to be honest this is a mature product so I am not sure if we will be able to get information on it. We can give it a try.
Thank you for your generous offer, but after days of incessant searching I have finally found what I believe to be the BIOS update I needed! For the benefit of those who read this thread in the future, I will explain how I found it:
By searching for "Intel Lexington 3 BIOS update" on a search engine, I found an old, dead link to Gateway's site which at one time had the BIOS update:
That Archive.org link lists a Lexington 3 BIOS version http://web.archive.org/web/20080606234803/http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=... MV85010A.15A.0086.P15, which is newer than my current version, MV85010A.15A.0041.P05, and is also the newest version I found. Other web searches have lead me to believe that this is the last BIOS update released for this motherboard. However, Archive.org didn't archive the file that the above download link points to.
Now armed with the version number I needed, I did another web search for "MV85010A.15A.0086.P15". All it returned were spam sites and the like. So to try attacking it at another angle, I instead searched for the name of the file (9521644.exe) from the above Archive.org link, as opposed to the BIOS version number. Simply typing 9521644.exe into a search engine let me to this site:
On that page I downloaded the heretofore elusive "9521644.exe". I manually extracted the .exe with an archive manager to verify that this was the file I was looking for. I found a readme.txt. Here is a couple excerpts from the readme.txt which verifies that this is the BIOS I was looking for:
File Description: Lexington, Lexington 2, and Lexington 3 Motherboard BIOS Update
Operating System: No specific Operating System
Driver Part Number: 9521644
This is the P15 BIOS update for the Intel motherboards with a BIOS identifier of MV85010A. These motherboards are the Lexington, Lexington 2 and Lexington 3 motherboards.
While the release date shown in the readme.txt and the Archive.org link don't match, everything else including the version number are identical. I am going to give it a shot this weekend, and I shall report back with the results.
Thanks so much for your help!
The BIOS update worked without a hitch!
The readme.txt says not to format the floppy in Windows NT, 2000, or XP. So I formatted the floppy in Windows 98SE and followed the remainder of the instructions with no issues.
A pleasant but unexpected side effect, is that my computer boots significantly faster now!
Unfortunately it was not the solution to my processor upgrade issues, however. It turns out that the processor was not compatible with my motherboard to begin with. Back to EBay!
Thanks again for your help, Sylvia.
