I've learned that the model number of the OptiPlex 755 mini tower's main board I have is CN-0GM819 .... I haven't been able to find a manual for it on Intel's site or anywhere else; do they have one? If not, why not?
I've just acquired an OptiPlex 755 minitower computer that's intact and working. But I also have a DP965LT main board (& the manual for it) that has a bad # 4 ram slot. I believe that all of its components are good and would like to put its processor, a Core 2 Duo quad, 2.4GHz, and ram, DDR2 PC6400 800MHz, into the 755's main board (which now has a Core 2 Duo processor and 4 sticks of DDR2 PC5300 800MHz ram). But I can't find a manual for it.
I see that the CN-0GM819's chipset is Q35 Express, whereas the DP965LT's is P965 Express. I don't know anything about this, so I don't know if the Core 2 Duo quad from my DP965LT will work on the GM819. Can someone please enlighten me on this.
I sure will appreciate your help. Thanks.
The main board for the Dell Optiplex 755 can be found on Dell's support page and you can get additional information from their support forums.
Thanks for joining the community.
I understand you are looking for processor compatibility on Dell systems.
Please bear in mind, this type of compatibility is provided by the board maker, in this case, Dell. Your system integrates Intel components but the actual maker is Dell.
If the Optiplex computer integrates an Intel Q35 Chipset, please take a look at this URL for compatible processors:
On the left hand side "Compatible Products"
I hope it helps.
I apologize to both of you; my mistake. I see that the 755's board IS a Dell, not an Intel. I'm still looking for the manual/tech. info. for it--in Dell's site. Meanwhile, thank you for your help. I've just checked your reference, and it doesn't look like that quad processor is suited to Dell's board; it isn't listed among the compatible processors.
