SATA Driver for older HDD

I am attempting to put a 3 year old Western Digital Scorpio Blue hard drive into a new Dell 3531 laptop (to save myself trouble of copying files / downgrading to Windows 7) but the new PC doesn't recognize the old hard drive as a bootable drive. Did some research and I think there is some sort of SATA driver I need to install on the old hard drive, but can't figure out what / how to install it? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for joining the Chipset community.

Is this new installation?

Are you setting up any RAID level?

If this is a new motherboard with and old hard drive, it might not detect bootable portion because previous operating system is already installed on the old disk, therefore, you need to re install the system.

I figured it out - new computer was set to boot with UEFI. I changed it to "legacy" and it recognized the old drive.
