Hi!
I have several DH87RL/MC and DH77EB motherboards at customers side, some of them are equipped with mSATA SSDs for caching (SRT) and all suffer from same problem: As soon as caching is enabled, the systems start to have short freezes. You can notice it best when playing music, you can hear audio buffer loops from time to time (sometimes 5 or more minutes, sometimes under a second in between) and the mouse pointer stalls for the same time.
I tried changing the Motherboard, CPU, RAM, PSU, HDD and SDD also with different makes/models, tried onboard and add-on grafic, tried all BIOS and Driver Versions in virtually any combination.
My results show that the problem is either related to H87 and H77 or all SSDs I tried.
The mSATA SSDs I have in use and tried in these systems:
ADATA SX300 64GB
ADATA SX300 128GB
PLEXTOR M5M 64GB
PLEXTOR M5M 128GB
SanDisk X110 64GB
To Notice: I haven't had problems with DZ68 and ADATA S599 60GB SSD (SATA2)!
Windows 7 x64 SP1 is in use on all systems.
I hope someone here has a clue on this and can point me in the right direction.
Thanks for your answers!
Best regards,
belcom.

Hi belcom,
I would like to know some more information about the configuration you are using:
- If using the system without the SRT, is the system working fine?
- Can you let me know what steps did you take to configure the SRT?
- Can you post your DxDiag Report here?

Hi Kevin!
1. Yes, all systems work fine as long as SRT is switched off.
2. I opened IAStorUI.exe, Performance, activate, ok. (both advanced and maximized give same results)
3. Here is dxdiag of one of the systems:

What version(s) of RST have you tried? What other software have you installed? Are you running Intel(R) Desktop Utilities or any 3rd-party monitoring applications (AIDA64, SpeedFan, HWMonitor, PC Wizard, etc.)?
Thanks,

Can't tell exactly what versions I already tried since I'm facing this problem for over a year now.
The problem also happens when I do a fresh install with all drivers (no IDU) and no additional software.
Thank you!

Just tested the above specified mSATA SSDs with an adapter to connect it to normal SATA port.
Got same results as when they were connected to the mSATA port.

Hi belcom
Are these SSDs new units or have been used to install operating systems? In the case that you have used the SSDs before, my recommendation is to do a low level format on the SSD first and then try accelerating the system with the SSD. Also make sure there are no partitions on the SSD.
Have you tried with a firmware update for the SSD?

Hi Kevin!
All these SSDs were new units. No OS or partition nor anything else have been on those SSDs.
Anyway, I did a low level format on two different SSDs (Plextor and SanDisk) and tried again: same results!
Then I tried to update the Plextor drive to FW 1.04 (no new firmware for the SanDisk drive available): same results!
I wonder if you can reproduce the issue?
As I have it on ALL my systems with DH77EB and DH87RL, I assume there need to be a common source.
May it helps if I upload a short video showing the issue just to verify that you got the right idea of what goes wrong here.
Will try to get such a video done.
Thanks for your help so far and I pray for more!
Yours,
belcom.

Belcom,
The RST team is asking for additional information. On one of the symptomatic systems, please run IAStorUI.exe, select Help and then select System Report. Best would be to save the output to a file. Send the report to me(either include in a reply or, if you prefer, to me via private message) and I will pass it on to them...
Thanks in advance,
Scott

What the hell are you talking about?
The SSD IS SET AS CACHE!
Sorry, but it seems that you don't talk about my problem.
Please head up to the first post and read again.
Thanks.

Belcom,
Internal team is saying you are using an older driver. Can you try with the latest package (12.8.0.1016)? Here's a link:

Hi belcom,
Based on the information from the report, you are using a previous version of the IRST. You can try downloading the latest version at the following link:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=23060&keyword=Intel+rapi... https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=23060&keyword=Intel+rapi...
Also, since you have tested and done several troubleshooting steps in your system, if the issue persists, I recommend you contacting your local support for a possible replacement of the unit.
