Was there any CD/ DVD/ Installation device along with these INTEL products?

I bought desktop home computer's parts (well sealed) on 2013, India, from a big and reputed shop, with bill; But unfortunately the day technicians (unrelated with the shop) came and assembled the computer; I could not be present there (I was university student then; I had to attend class). I did not knew that computer parts may come with installation disk. Incidentally there was no "installation disks" or with any of the computer hardware, when I came back to home.

I had 2 products from Intel: 1. The PROCESSOR and 2. The MOTHERBOARD.

Later on 2017 the PC experienced a major system crash; and another group of technicians handled it; they re-installed OS (Windows-7). The second group of technicians told me to bring the CD/DVD for INTEL hardwares! I was shocked because I did not knew computer hardwares may come with CD/DVDs. However this second group of technicians claimed it is important to immediately install drivers for basic use of the machine; and they brought and run some third-party doubtful softwares, that seemed to install drivers. They also emphasised there must be an installation CD for intel hardwares, (which will must be required after a clean reinstall of OS) which I might lost or someone took away.

I searched the boxes and papers (which I kept at my best care,). Surprisingly I could not see any papers about INTEL and can not find box for Motherboard, but can find the box for Processor. The box (Packet) says "This box contains an Intel (R) processor and a thermal solution designed for use in a Desktop PC". On the box there is no mention of CD/DVD.

I am worrying for the case in future I want to install an OS through my own (not by a technician) ; could I continue OS installation and basic use of the computer, without separately installing drivers?

So I basically I want to know following 5 things:

1. Was there really any installation disk(s) with along the INTEL PROCESSOR?(See product details below **) and for another INTEL MOTHERBOARD? ( I could not find the detail papers of desktop board, however according to the bill it is INTEL P4 DH61WWB3).

2. Do I really need to separately install any driver? (Note: Even after the technicians installed the drivers, sometimes I get warnings something like "driver not working" or "driver file missing" etc, although the problem resolves after few restarts).

3. : If the Intel product(s) really contained a installation disk/installation device; then :

3. A: from where I can get a LIST/content of drivers and softwares etc given installation disk?

3. B. : What could I do if some of them are not available in INTEL's official website?

3. C. : If the required drivers and softwares found on INTEL's website; then could I first download them in someone else's PC (say from Cyber Cafe) and apply then run in my home computer? (I want to know this because I sometimes saw if I download a software in someone else's computer and bring it home in a pendrive(flashdrive), the software shown copyright issues/ permission issues. But in cases my OS crashes so I want reinstall, I'll have to use someone else's computer)

First of all, no processor releases contain installation CDs/DVDs.

Most motherboards do, however, come with CDs/DVDs that provide (amongst other things) an initial set of drivers. I typically do not use these CDs/DVDs, however (an ironic message, considering that I managed the group that generated these CDs/DVDs for Intel's Desktop Board products for a number of years). The reason is that the drivers are typically way out of date and you are going to have to download newer ones anyway (either separately or via the Windows Update process). Most board manufacturers have a web page for each of their motherboard products from which you can download the latest validated drivers. I would use these sites. I specifically do not recommend using any of the third-party driver sites or applications like DriverEasy. These sites are often chock full of malware, etc.

If you give us more information about your motherboard, we can probably help you with finding the right site to download drivers from.

Thank you very much for your answer; but please let me know a few thing more detailed. Suppose I want to buy a CD of original windows on my own; (on the given situation I do not have the Intel drivers) and install it on my own; could I proceed installation of the Windows? Also without installing the driver pack; could I perform basic file-operations, paint, etc? and in that condition, could I connect to the internet (so that I can download required drivers)? (I currently connect to internet mainly with an Android mobile's internet by tethering an USB cable, and sometimes use "Dongles").

"Most board manufacturers have a web page "

About Manufacturer: It is an "assembled PC", not from a particular hardware. However 2 main parts; Motherboard and Microprocessor is from Intel and the Graphics card is of NVIDIA, that may require driver. Does hard drive and RAM requires any driver? The hard-drive is from Western Digitals and the RAM is probably from Kingston.

I will try to further find the details of my Original Intel motherboard.

Thanks and Regards.

Unfortunately, there are way too many third-party boards that advertise themselves as being "Genuine Intel boards". Consult https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005663/boards-and-kits.html How to Identify Your Intel® Desktop Board for information regarding how you can recognize a true Intel board product.

Next, regarding your first question -- and presuming that we are talking about a true Intel Desktop Board -- the answer depends upon your chosen version of Windows:

  • If we are talking about Windows 10, Intel never supported any of its boards on Windows 10 (Windows 10 simply did not exist back then), so you will be reliant upon the compatibility drivers that are included in Windows 10. In this case, Windows 10 will install without requiring any additional drivers (what it needs will either be included in the Windows 10 installation image or will be downloaded automatically).

  • If we are talking about Windows 8.1, the last few generations of the Intel Desktop Boards did have support for Windows 8.1. In this case, however, you can usually install the O/S and then update to the latest drivers. If there is one that you might need to install an update for before using Windows Update, it would be the networking driver.

  • If we are talking about Windows 7, you should be able to do a base install of the O/S without requiring any additional driver (unless you are using RAID), but likely you will need to install updates deom intel before you can connect to the internet and install updates from Microsoft.

If you have a true Intel Desktop Board, go to site https://downloadcenter.intel.com/ Drivers & Software and then use the search box to look for drivers specific to your board. On the resulting page, you will want to download all of the drivers that are marked "Latest" and that are for your chosen Windows version and precision (32-bits vs. 64-bits).

Unless you are using RAID, you will not need any drivers for your hard drive. As I said, for your class of processor, no drivers are required there either. RAM never requires drivers.

Hope this helps,

I am vey glad to know

"In this case, Windows 10 will install without requiring any additional drivers (what it needs will either be included in the Windows 10 installation image or will be downloaded automatically)."

Btw; Good news; the box(container) of the motherboard has been found, ultimately; from a very obscure place at our home.

The box contains a DVD From intel and several other disks which I'm seeing for the first time. Somehow the box went apart after it was opened.

Incidentally its page tells the product status (https://ark.intel.com/products/54876/Intel-Desktop-Board-DH61WW Intel® Desktop Board DH61WW Product Specifications ) says it has "End of Interactive Support".

The box labells the following data:

None of the desktop boards are supported now. And, Windows 10 is not supported on any of them. Notice that I said "not supported", not that Windows 10 will not run.

If you want the latest drivers and bios for this board, go here:

https://ark.intel.com/products/54876/Intel-Desktop-Board-DH61WW Intel® Desktop Board DH61WW Product Specifications

On the left side column, click on drivers and software.

:O If windows 10 is not supported then how Windows 10 will run? Would it run erroneously?

It will run. It is simply not supported by Intel. So, if you have any problems, no support is available. Do not look for new drivers. There will not be any for windows 10, except what Microsoft provides.
