Exclusive access to compute node on devcloud

I'm running some perfermance benchmark on Intel devcloud's CPU node, the result seems varies a lot, so I wander do we have exclusive access to the compute node when job running? or are we sharing the node with other people's job? Thanks!

Hi,

Good day to you.

Thanks for posting in Intel Communities.

All the nodes inside Intel DevCloud are not the same. Intel DevCloud has different types of nodes for different functionalities which can be requested by name or its properties like CPU, GPU, etc. If you want consistency for the nodes, you need to specifically submit the job to a node with the same name or properties. You can find the documentation on job submission and how to do this in different ways at the link: https://devcloud.intel.com/oneapi/documentation/job-submission/

>> Do we have exclusive access to the compute node when job running

The login node (presented as <user_id>@login-2) is a shared node and multiple users will be logged into that node.

The compute node (presented as <user_id>@sXXX-nXXX) is a dedicated node and once you submit a job using the qsub command, you will be having exclusive access to it.

>> Are we sharing the node with other people's job

Once you submit a job to a compute node using the qsub command, you are allocated a dedicated node and other people cannot access the node until your job completes. Please note that if you are using Jupyter Notebook, your node is shared with multiple users.

Current Terms and Conditions of using DevCloud do not allow benchmarking or publishing any related results. For more information on the Terms & Conditions of DevCloud usage refer https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/legal/terms-of-use.html, Section 9.2 prohibits publishing performance benchmarks.

If this resolves your issue, make sure to accept this as a solution. This would help others with a similar issue.
