PTY allocation request failed on channel 0

Hello,

when trying to connect to DevCloud for oneAPI via SSH, I get this message:

PTY allocation request failed on channel 0

followed by the usual MOTD ("Welcome to the Intel DevCloud for oneAPI Projects"...), but the shell prompt does not appear.

Ultimately, I have to kill the connection with Ctrl+C.

I can still use scp/sftp, though.

Thank you for looking into this!

EDIT/P.S.: After a few attempts the issue now seems to be resolved, i.e., normal ssh access is possible.

For your information, the shell prompt did not appear, but the shell itself was accepting input and processing commands (ls, e.g.).

Thank you anyway, and please regard the issue as closed (unless there is something I have to do to prevent it from occurring again).

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Intel communities.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Looks like that was a temporary issue. We are able to connect to DevCloud for oneAPI via SSH now. Please can you check and confirm.

Thanks

Hi, I have the same problem:

stty: standard input: Inappropriate ioctl for device
PTY allocation request failed on channel 0

I can type in commands like “ls” or so and it works BUT the command prompt of bash shell does not appear at all.

If I "bash -i", I get something like below and the prompt is back:

bash: cannot set terminal process group (10069): Inappropriate ioctl for device
bash: no job control in this shell

But this prompt works imperfectly; for example, when I Tab to auto-complete a command, it does not work.

Could someone at Intel please fix this issue for us? Many thanks in advance.

Same issue, but for me even unable to type anything, stuck after oneapi notice. Can someone help?

This problem disappeared for me a few hours ago but came back just now.

Whenever "PTY allocation request failed on channel 0" appeared, command prompt was then gone and the shell was frozen.

Yes, I can connect without issues.

I'll accept your reply as a solution, in the hope that ssh now works for the others as well.

Thank you!

Hi Rahila,

Just to confirm that I can also ssh without any issues now.

The "PTY allocation request failed on channel 0" message disappeared.

Thanks for the help.
