VFB pin handling on EP53A7LQI

On the EP53A7LQI, the VFB is used for setting the output voltage using an external resistor divider network. But how should the VFB pin be handled if the output voltage is set using a VID setting?

Hello Hal,

When the VID circuit activated, the controller will not detect any signal on the VFB pin, so you can keep the VFB pin floating when you are using the VID setting.

Thanks,

Mostafa

Hi Mostafa,

BTW, is that noted anywhere in any EP53A7LQI related documentation? I went through the datasheet and eval board guide but didn't find that. Just wondering if I had missed it.

Hi Hal,

I have reviewed the datasheet VID setting description and i can see that it is not said explicit the VFB pin can be left floating when the internal voltage VID setting is selected.

The main purpose for the internal VID setting is to reduce the external component (remove the external voltage divider which means VFB is floating) to provide a small solution size.

I will send an internal datasheet's update request to make it more clear about the VFB pin connection.

Thanks,

Mostafa

Hi Mostafa,

Thanks, I appreciate you confirming what I found (or, more accurately, what I didn't find) in the datasheet. And thanks for taking the extra step to request fixing this in a future revision.

Regards,

Hal
