old dowloads quartus and modelsim

Yes I agree, this is a recurring problem. The web site should make it easier to download older versions of the tools.

It is the correct name. Altera's ftp server is sometimes a bit sluggish. Try to download the file with another software or change between passive/active ftp modes. 

The modelsim version that you'll need is 10.1sp1_modelsim_ase_windows.exe

I just tried and this file downloads fine on my system. As I suggested, try to use another software. 

The version 10.1 without the service pack can have some bugs that have been fixed in sp1.
