Can someone please clarify?
From my attempt at reading the copyright stuff (hard to digest in a hurry), it seemed like this was NOT permissible. Also the complex registration process does not seem to allow for it?
Would have thought it fairly common to allow non-concurrent use of a program of this type on a laptop (eg. my GIS program specifically permits such use)?
As a sole practitioner (engineer programming part of my time - probably less < 10%), am I expected to have 2 licences for occasional use on a laptop? Certainly no one else in the house is going to do Fortran!
I have to go to Sydney early next week & will likely need to edit and compile a Fortran program while there. Do I have to drop back to my old copy of CVF (assuming that is permissible)? Unfortunately, that would mean modifying the code to run under CVF.

Intel Visual Fortran is licensed to you, individually. You may use it on as many PCs as you like, as long as it's YOU using it. I don't understand your comment about the registration - you've already registered, just use the same license you were sent initially.
Here's the relevant text from the license:
SINGLE-USER LICENSE: If you are using the Materials under the control of a Single-User license, you as an individual may install and use the Materials on an unlimited number of computers provided that you are the only individual using the Materials and only one copy of the Materials is in use at any one time. A separate license is required for each additional use and/or individual user in all other cases. Intel will provide you with a license code key that enables the Materials for a Single-User license. If you obtained a time-limited Single-User license, the duration (time period) of your license and your ability to use the Materials is limited to the time period of the obtained license, which is controlled by the license key code for the Materials. If you are an entity, Intel grants you the right to designate one individual within your organization to have the sole right to use the Materials in the manner provided above.

Thanks for the clarification Steve.
Clearly I mis-read the EULA (not a surprise to me). I assumed the license was for the installation, hence I envisaged I would have to repeat the whole registration process for my laptop. The conditions you indicated seem very sensible.
I have now installed IVF8.1 on my laptop. Seemed to install OK, but when I attempt to compile a project I get two error messages:
- A license for FCompW could not be obtained
- Could not checkout FLEXIm license
Yet "flex_ug.pdf" in C:Program FilesCommon FilesIntelFLEXlm states "It is necessary to install the License Manager only if you are using a counted license". Does not seem to apply (& fairly certain I did not set this up on my desktop).
Also file "w_for_********.lic" in C:Program FilesCommon FilesIntelLicenses is in place.
It is not clear what the problem is. Unfortunately I cannot recall all the steps I had to go through to set up on my desktop.

David,
You do not need to install the license manager unless you have a floating or counted license.
Please submit a support request to Intel Premier Support, attach the .lic file you have in your Program FilesCommon FilesIntelLicenses folder, state the name of the compiler EXE you installed (w_fc_pc_8.1.????) and the complete and exact text of the error message. We'll be glad to help you through the support channel.

It was a little more urgent than would likely be resolved through Premier Support as I have to leave for Sydney in less than 3 days - 2 of them weekend!
I have now "solved" the problem & I recall now I had the same issue when I set up on my desktop PC.
I checked "BuildLog.txt" and found the lines:
-----------------
Is your license file in the right location and readable?
The location of your license file should be specified via
the $INTEL_LICENSE_FILE environment variable.
License file(s) used were (in this order):
1. C:PROGRA~1IntelFortranCOMPIL~1Ia32Bin*.lic
-----------------
That is the location of the compiler exe, not where the license should be.
I tried running "ifortvars.bat" to set the environment.
"ifortvars.bat" includes the line "SET INTEL_LICENSE_FILE=C:Program FilesCommon FilesIntelLicenses", but that did not fix the problem.
The "fix" was simply to copy a version of "w_for_********.lic" to C:Program FilesIntelFortrancompiler80IA32BIN.
At that point I recalled a similar problem with my initial setup on my desktop PC. I went back and checked & indeed I had placed a copy of the license file in C:Program FilesIntelFortrancompiler80IA32BIN.
Possibly not the "correct" solution, but it seems to work.
Thanks

Hmm. The compiler will look for a license in the path specified by INTEL_LICENSE_FILE, if defined. If not, then it uses Program FilesCommon FilesIntelLicenses
Glad to hear you got it working.
