Missing options for Tools/"projects and solutions"

Hi,

my question is slightly off-topic, as it involves more the IDE than the compiler. We ran into a strange
problem with Visual Studio 2008. On one PC we see only two items under "Projects and solutions"
(the Tools/Options dialogue) - General and VB Defaults, even though C, C++ and Fortran have
been installed there. This is the first time I have encountered this.

Does anyone know how to get the full share of items (notably Build and Run)?

VS2008 uses that bizarre MS notion that it only shows you options it thinks are important, by default. There is an option in there to show you everything. This really baffled me when I first encountered it.

I have never been able to understand the advantages of that behaviour. I merely find it
confusing. But wrt VS2008: I have been unable to find the option you refer to - could you
point me in the right direction?

Sorry, but I am away from my computers right now. Will be back Monday. I think it was in one of the General pages.

No problem. It could be the "Auto Hide button affects active tool window only" option, that is
the only thing that seems to come close. I will ask my colleague to try that one.

It turns out to be a checkbox at the bottom of the dialogue. Curiously, it appears on my colleague's system (he overlooked it at first), but not on mine. Well, we have found the solution and gained a few riddles, but
they are not important enough to investigate.

I'm glad you found it - it must be in some editions of VS2008 and not others. MS evidently found that enough users hated this feature that they removed it in their 2010 products. It's also in Office.
