Updating environment variables has no effect?

Hello ... first of all I am a total newbie so please be gentle!

I'm running a batch file and get the following error LINK : fatal error LNK1181: cannot open input file 'ws2_32.lib'. As I understandadding C:Program FilesIntelFortrancompiler80IA32LIBto the system environment variable LIB should solve this. Am I right in thinking this because when I do it nothing changes, I still get the error. However if I move ws2_32.lib to the directory I'm running the batch from it all works fine. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong. I know it has to be simple but my FORTRAN days are just beginning so any suggestions are welcome!
