DC power input J17-pin 4

i'm going to realize one custom interface for Intel edison mini breakout, i would like to use only the back connector, to connect all the devices. Can I connect the external DC power supply directly on DC IN on the pin n°4 of the J17 header? I'd like to not use the default J21 header, cause is situated on the top.

Hi Giancarlo1809,

Yes, you can use the external power supply connected to J17-4 as stated in the Edison Hardware Guide.

Many thanks Pablo! I will use it connected pin J17-4 to a 12VDC power supply through an external Schottky barrier diode, used to prevent polarity inversion, cause i think that the internal protections diode are, bypassed when i use this kind of configuration. Is it right?

Hi Giancarlo1809,

By "this configuration" you mean applying 12V to J17-4? I've been looking at the schematics and I believe this is not the case. But it's always a good idea to prevent any possible issue, so I would suggest you to use the Schottky barrier diode for prevention.

Regards,

Pablo
