Apologies if I'm misunderstanding the Yocto threads concerning the kernel, but does a public git repository exist for the Linux kernel used on the Edison? Specifically, I was wondering if the repository that created the upstream_to_edison.patch file exists anywhere. Likewise, it would also be useful if the U-boot repository that generated its upstream_to_edison.patch was accessible.
When you download and run setup while building the image you download the poky layer for the daisy branch. You can find this layer in here: http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/poky/tree/?h=daisy poky - Poky Build Tool and Metadata. Right now there isn't an official repository for Edison itself but in future you could check here http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/ Source Repositories as you can see there is a meta-galileo and meta-intel but not an specific Edison's repository yet.
I was actually looking for a Linux kernel repository rather than a Yocto layer. For example, something like these:
https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux raspberrypi/linux · GitHub
http://git.ti.com/ti-linux-kernel/ti-linux-kernel ti-linux-kernel in TI Linux Kernel - Gitorious@TI Open Source Collaboration (BeagleBone)
It sounds like Edison versions don't exist, but I'd hope to motivate that posting official kernel and u-boot git repos can be really helpful. I'm currently trying to get support for the Edison in the Buildroot project (see https://github.com/fhunleth/buildroot-edison fhunleth/buildroot-edison · GitHub). So far the Edison seems like a really nice platform for Buildroot-based projects, but digging patch files out of Yocto layers to build the kernel is not ideal and presents some problems.
Hi fhunleth ;
In this moment there isn't a repository as the one you are looking for but eventually it will be available, there isn't an estimated time of arrival for this but it is on the Edison road map.
Thanks for the update. It doesn't need to be anything complicated. While it would be nice to have commit history, having a Linux kernel with the squashed patch applied would work. For example, something like this, but updated: https://github.com/instantinfrastructure/linux-yocto-3.10/tree/edison https://github.com/instantinfrastructure/linux-yocto-3.10/tree/edison. Alternately, if it's easier to just post the patch on https://software.intel.com/en-us/iot/hardware/edison/downloads IoT - Intel® Edison Download | Intel® Developer Zone or the Intel GitHub, that would be fine too. I'm currently at a place where simple hacks work, but it's too much work to get Edison in Buildroot in a nice maintainable way . I'll check the forum from time to time and when something happens on this issue, I'll try again with upstream Buildroot support.
