I am looking at the Maestro A2200-A GPS reciever and was wondering if I am correct in assuming that all that is necessary is the required resistors and the antenna for it to communicate with the Edison using i2c.

Hi PrescottJoule,
I just checked the document that you shared and I think that you're correct, it's kind of a plug and play device. Still, which board are you using, Arduino Expansion board or Breakout Board (mini-breakout board)?

I will be using the mini breakout to start and move on to a custom board later.

Hi PrescottJoule,
I would suggest you to check this thread while you're working with your Breakout Board and sensor /thread/57339 https://communities.intel.com/thread/57339. You might find some helpful tips in there from other users. If by some reason you start using the Edison Arduino Expansion board, http://www.emutexlabs.com/project/215-intel-edison-gpio-pin-multiplexing-guide EmutexLabs has some great resources on how to configure your board for I2C to work.
Regards,
