Hardware Straps

Hello Everyone.

We checked the Hardware Straps in SOC-x1000 Processor Data-sheet. (section 2.18, Page Number 56)

But Data-sheet has not enough information to understand in more Detail. Specially to change the DDR3 RAM from 128MB to 256 MB.

Please Help us to set the proper configuration of Hardware Straps to change the DDR3 RAM from 128 MB to 256 MB.

Also provide us the more Document related to the Hardware Straps.

Hi Nikunj,

We'll help you find all the documentation you need in order to help you with your project. We found some information about hardware straps in the following documents

Specification update: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/quark/quark-x1000-spec-update.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/quark/quark-x1000-spec-update.html Section 4

UEFI Firmware Writers Guide: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/quark/quark-x1000-uefi-firmware-writers-gui... http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/quark/quark-x1000-uefi-firmware-writers-gui... Section 23.1.1

Platform Design Guide: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/quark/quark-x1000-platform-design-guide.htm... http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/quark/quark-x1000-platform-design-guide.htm... Section 12.6

Now, about the configuration to change DDR3 from 128MB to 256MB. Could you provide more information for this point? You can see most of the general guidelines about the memory configuration in the datasheet section 13 http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/quark/quark-x1000-datasheet.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/quark/quark-x1000-datasheet.html .

Thanks Sergio.

We will require more details Regarding the Hardware straps.

What are the changes require to use the 512MB DDR3 RAM (256MB DDR3 + 256MB DDR3) instead of 256MB RAM(128MB RAM + 128MB RAM).

Thanks in Advance.

Hi Nikunj,

Could you please describe which details of hardware straps you're looking for, that are not on any of the documents we posted above?

On your second question you ask for the changes to use 512MB RAM instead of 256MB RAM. Do you refer to software changes of hardware changes? Do you want to use two 256MB RAM and connect them so they work as a single 512MB RAM?

We want to help you as much as we can, but in order to do so we need more information so we can provide a more accurate response. Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks for your reply. We are developing our board same as Galileo rev 2 board.

We need to change only 512 MB instead of 256 MB DDR3 RAM. So which software changes will require to proper board boot up with 512MB RAM.

Thanks

Hi Nikunj,

If you're looking for documentation on the required software changes needed for the DDR3 DRAM configuration, I'd suggest you to look at the UEFI Firmware Writers Guide Document Section 5. You can find this document here https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23197/Intel-Quark-SoC-X1000-Board-Support-Package-BSP- https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23197/Intel-Quark-SoC-X1000-Board-Support-Package-BSP- . At the end of chapter 5 you'll see the firmware sources mentioned in the chapter.
