Hi there!
We plan to use Edison board as a major part of a new product.
I am trying to figure out whether we can stick to Intel Edison for the next three or four years?
Thank You!

Join the club. And with Intel keeping it's cards so close the chest on hardware details and road map there is least the suggestion that they want to have the option to bail out any time they choose.
And who would they be hurting in that case? Only 'makers' (hobbyists?), no real industrial customers as they promised them nothing.
Intel, wouldn't it be time to commit?
One could make a serious argument that they have already stopped supporting it. Also, considering what real support looks like for real products in this market, one could argue that they never actually supported it.
Well that sounds a bit harsh. I would rather take a positive view. The Edison in a brilliant device especially for iiot and much more complex than a mC (which often comes with a 1000 pages of hardware documentation). I guess it's also drawing a new kind of public with new support expectations.
I think it is great that support for the Edison is going into the vanilla kernel thanks to Andy https://github.com/andy-shev/linux/tree/eds https://github.com/andy-shev/linux/tree/eds among others, and at the same time worried about the slow pace at https://github.com/01org/edison-linux/tree/wip-edison-3.19.5 https://github.com/01org/edison-linux/tree/wip-edison-3.19.5. As without opening up documentation certain parts will always require Intel binaries, we really need to know where this is going and for how long it will go. We can't spend 2 years of development to find that the device has become obsolete. And we can't wait indefinitely for the software platform to stabilize.
