Hi Simon,
Thanks for your interest in the Intel Edison Platform.
We don't have the RFID RC522 module to test it, however, we have noticed that this module uses the SPI interface and 3.3V power supply, and the Edison Breakout board has a 1.8V operating voltage, so you will need logic level shifters in order to use it with the 3.3V module. Please take a look at this information: /thread/59845 Suggestions for level shifters to use with mini breakout board, in order to get more information regarding level shifters.
Also, we have only found this Arduino RFID library for MFRC522 (https://github.com/miguelbalboa/rfid https://github.com/miguelbalboa/rfid), however, this library is written specifically for the Arduino board, so they are based on their MCU architecture and it won't compile on the Edison because its architecture is different. Some libraries can be edited in order to use with the Edison but in some cases it is not possible.
Hope this information helps.
