How to install CP210X driver to Yocto)?

Hi there,

I am a beginner of Linux Yocto. I have an issue as below.

I build a Yocto 4.1.15 and run the Yocto on SD card. I do it as below link.

http://www.variwiki.com/index.php?title=VAR-SOM-MX6_Yocto_Jethro_R4_Build_Yocto_release VAR-SOM-MX6 Yocto Jethro R4 Build Yocto release - Variscite Wiki

I need to install a driver USB to UART (CP210x USB to UART Bridge) into my Yocto. I read the following post but it is not suitable for my case (I think the main problem is the difference between kernel versions of my case and the post)

/message/289410# 289410 https://communities.intel.com/message/289410# 289410

Please give me your suggestion if you have any idea.

Thanks.

Are you sure we are talking about Intel Edison and x86 architecture?

Hi Jackbk,

Thank you for contacting us.

Just like 0andriy said, are you trying to do this with the Edison?

About the Yocto version that you are trying to run I think it is not possible with the official Image, you can find the official Image for Edison that we support here: https://software.intel.com/en-us/iot/hardware/edison/downloads.

Now, regarding the driver issue it requires kernel 3.14 to work and the official image doesn't meet this requirement (Check this thread: https://communities.intel.com/thread/99983 https://communities.intel.com/thread/99983).

If you want to know more about Yocto Project and how to do this with a newer version I recommend you to check the Yocto Mega Manual ( http://www.yoctoproject.org/docs/current/dev-manual/dev-manual.html# new-recipe-patching-code) or contact them https://www.yoctoproject.org/about/contact-us

Have a nice day.

Regards,

Dear Mr. Oandriy, Leonardo,

I am a beginner of Yocto, so I may misunderstand something about Yocto.

I am using Jethro Yocto. I think it is a kind of Yocto version, not Edision.

For CPU of my board, I am using DART MX6 board. It is here

http://www.variscite.com/products/system-on-module-som/cortex-a9/dart-mx6-cpu-freescale-imx6 DART-MX6 CPU: Freescale iMX6 | System on Module - Variscite

When I check my kernel of Yocto by "uname -a", it is as follows.

4.1.15

I read many posts related to install CP210X driver to Yocto, but they are not suitable for my case. A good post is as below but it is for Edision.

If you have any idea or you know any related posts that are suitable for my case, please tell me.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Jackbk,

The best information that I can give you are those two links about Yocto that I gave on my last reply. Just to clarify this is the Edison Community. You can also check the site that 0andriy shared, it can be very helpful for you.

Have a nice day.

Dear Mr. Oandriy, Leonardo,

Thank you for your support. I think that my question is not suitable in this forum.

Anyway, I will check the link that Mr.Oandriy mentioned.

I will find a solution for my case.

Have a nice day.

I think the best point to start is this community discussion https://community.nxp.com/docs/DOC-1616 https://community.nxp.com/docs/DOC-1616. Here we are discussing x86 architecture which is not what your device based on.
