How to install Python 2.7.9+?

Hey guys, I have recently been playing around with AWS IoT and I would like to do some test with python on the Edison using paho-mqtt. In order to connect to AWS IoT I need to use ssl.PROTOCOL_TLSv1_2.

Unfortunately that version of TLS is not included in the SSL package below Python Version 2.7.9.

Any suggestions on getting 2.7.9 (or better yet 2.7.11) set up on the edison? I see that currently only Python-Core 2.7.3 is in the opkg repos.

(Running Edison 159.devkit)

Thanks so much!

Jake

Ok, managed to get it installed.

Steps:

Downloaded GZipped tarball:

https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-2711/ https://www.python.org/downloads/release/python-2711/

Extracted

tar xvf Python-2.7.11.tgz

Ran:

./configure

make

make altinstall

Then I ran into some trouble installing paho-mqtt for python 2.7.11

eventually ran:

easy_install2.7 pip

This updated my version of pip to the latest

then I could finally properly run:

python2.7 /usr/bin/pip install paho-mqtt

That finally got me all up to date with python 2.7.11 and paho-mqtt.

Thanks!

Hello,

in the moment I do the same on my Intel Galileo.

Do you know how long it takes? (I'm compiling over 24 hours now.)
