Hi,
You can use the start-stop-daemon command.
Here you'll find the script that auto starts the motion software https://github.com/alext-mkrs/edison-mon-sys/blob/master/etc/init.d/motion https://github.com/alext-mkrs/edison-mon-sys/blob/master/etc/init.d/motion . Look at the stop () function section and you'll find the compete command used to stop the daemon.
