How to verify whether right image is loaded on the Intel Edison mini break out board

Jump to solution

Hello,

I am new to Edison and working on edison mini break out board for a project on BLE . Initially assembled the board and choose the operating system as OS X and installed https://downloadmirror.intel.com/25384/eng/m_iot_dev_kit_2015.0.026.tar.gz Mac OS X Integrated Installer https://software.intel.com/en-us/iot/hardware/edison/downloads https://software.intel.com/en-us/iot/hardware/edison/downloads

  1. My question is, does installing the https://downloadmirror.intel.com/25384/eng/m_iot_dev_kit_2015.0.026.tar.gz Mac OS X Integrated Installer https://downloadmirror.intel.com/25384/eng/m_iot_dev_kit_2015.0.026.tar.gz https://downloadmirror.intel.com/25384/eng/m_iot_dev_kit_2015.0.026.tar.gz will take care of loading firmware/image on the intel edison board? or
  2. Do I need install the image/firmware separately? If yes, Please provide the guidelines/link to follow.
  3. By installing https://downloadmirror.intel.com/25384/eng/m_iot_dev_kit_2015.0.026.tar.gz Mac OS X Integrated Installer [ https://downloadmirror.intel.com/25384/eng/m_iot_dev_kit_2015.0.026.tar.gz https://downloadmirror.intel.com/25384/eng/m_iot_dev_kit_2015.0.026.tar.gz ], I am able to scan and connect bluetooth devices using bluetoothctl. Does that mean I have loaded the image on Edison board?
  4. What is exact difference between flashing the board and loading the image on board? and how is it different from installing https://downloadmirror.intel.com/25384/eng/m_iot_dev_kit_2015.0.026.tar.gz Mac OS X Integrated Installer?

Following were the steps that I performed for setting up mini break out board : https://software.intel.com/en-us/get-started-edison-osx-step2 https://software.intel.com/en-us/get-started-edison-osx-step2

1. Assemble your board

2. Run integrated installer

3. set up serial terminal

4. connect over wifi

5. set up your IDE(Eclipse)

After performing above steps, the EDISON would show up in devices list but does not contain any files loaded, it is empty.

Thanks in advance

Hello HC,

Indeed installing the Integrated Installer is different than flashing the board. The integrated installer installs Edison's drivers as well as the desired IDEs on your computer, so, this process does not interact directly with Edison but rather it makes sure the host computer will be able to work with Edison.

In order to flash the image on Edison you have to use Flash Tool Lite. You can find this tool and a guide on how to use it on http://software.intel.com/en-us/iot/hardware/edison/downloads Edison Downloads. There used to be a way to flash your board by putting the image files on Edison's drive but it is no longer used since the latest image is actually bigger than Edison's drive, that's why your Edison's drive is empty. Let me know if you have any other doubts.
