i am using 3 hx711 amplifiers(I2C device) with 12 load cells for a project. can i connect all the amplifiers to a single edison with arduino expansion board?

Thanks for contacting us.
I think you shouldn't have problems with that, but I recommend you to power them externally because sometimes the Edison doesn't supply enough power for them.
Additionally, check the UPM repository, you can find examples for the hx711 like this one: https://github.com/intel-iot-devkit/upm/blob/master/examples/c%2B%2B/hx711.cxx

I am using an external supply to power my load cells.
I am using the library suggested by you.I want to know the unit of the return value of getUnits() function in the hx771 library .

I'm not sure about it, but I recommend you to try to contact the author of the example. His email should be at the beginning of the example.
