Installing OpenCV in Joule - how?

Jump to solution

Here is a link that describes the steps for installing OpenCv in Ubuntu

http://www.samontab.com/web/2014/06/installing-opencv-2-4-9-in-ubuntu-14-04-lts/ http://www.samontab.com/web/2014/06/installing-opencv-2-4-9-in-ubuntu-14-04-lts/

I was wondering if the same steps would work for Linux in Joule. or any help on step-by step guide to install openCv in Joule would really appreciated.

Thanks

Hello laskar,

Thanks for reaching out!

In order to install OpenCV, you will have to install this package from source. You will find the Linux installation steps in http://docs.opencv.org/2.4/doc/tutorials/introduction/linux_install/linux_install.html. Nevertheless, you will also have to install the package's dependencies from source (in case they are missing) as apt-get is not included on Joule's image.

I hope this information helps.

Thank you for the response.

So, apt package can be installed on Joule Linux? Would it work? OpenCV indeed requires many dependencies and it will be easier to deal with them using apt-get.

Unfortunately apt-get is not included on Joule's default image, in fact the default image does not include a package manager (as you can see in https://communities.intel.com/thread/107337 https://communities.intel.com/thread/107337). Right now the only way to install packages on Joule is by building them from source.

The other option would be build your own image that includes OpenCV by default.

I hope this help.

Any guidance link please? -I mean, can you please direct me to any web resources.

I was reading the Ostro project page - looks like there is steep learning curve for those who are not Lunux-guru!

Hi laskar,

You might be interested in checking Ostro's Github page: https://github.com/ostroproject/ostro-os-xt.

You might also want to have the getting started guide: https://software.intel.com/en-us/intel-joule-getting-started.

If you could specify a little bit more about the information you need we might be able to provide you more links.

Let me know.
