Intel Edison Bluetooth LE

Jump to solution

Hello

I would like to ask who have experience with Intel Edison, specifically about the Bluetooth LE .

Is it possible to scan and list all the devices (BLE only like smart watches) in the range. Also is it possible to create a program where i can Scan every 2 minutes and send data to application using web WebStock or restful web services.

Thank you.

Hello KhaledSMQ,

There are a couple of ways to interact with BLE device with Edison. Straight out of the box Edison can scan LE devices with hcitool. The command would be hcitool lescan. I believe yes, you should be able to create a script that scans every two minutes and sends its data to certain site. You could store the scanned data in a file and then send the file every two minutes. Nevertheless if you wish to interact even more with your BLE devices, then I suggest you to install Gatttool, you can find how to do it in https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/using-the-generic-attribute-profile-gatt-in-bluetooth-low-... IoT - Using the Generic Attribute Profile (GATT) in Bluetooth* Low Energy with your Intel® Edison Board | Intel® Develop….

Also, I suggest you to read http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/000005743.html Bluetooth® User Guide for Boards and Kits, I believe it'd very helpful for you.

Thank you Intel_Peter for your clear answer,

I think now i have clear image for what i am going to do.

Basically i will not interact with any device i will just keep tracking specific devices for special needs they are wearing and they already have there build in own functions, and am just thinking to add more value for it.

Again Thank you so much, one i have any update i will share with you.
