Intel Joule 550X - Connecting to an LCD Display

Hi, similar to the HDMI connection on the "Intel Joule Expansion Board (IJEB)", I was planning to connect an LCD to the intel Joule via HDMI.

I found the HDMI Level Shifter on the IJEB is not easy to get. Is there another way the Joule can communicate to an LCD?

I attached the schematic for the IJEB as an FYI.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,

Thank you for contacting us.

I don't think that there is another way to connect the LCD display if it uses the HDMI interface, I was checking the information about the Joule and I have found this link that can be useful for you: https://software.intel.com/en-us/node/737181, it has 2 examples circuits about HDMI design options, and you can use them as a reference to implement your design.

I hope you find this helpful.

Have a nice day.

Regards,

Hi Leonardo,

Thanks for responding. Is there another way an LCD can talk to the Intel Joule without using HDMI?

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,

Well, it depends of the LCD display that you are trying to use. I mean, if you want to use a small LCD display that uses SPI or I2C, yes it is possible to use it.

If it is a LCD screen that is normally used with a HDMI cable, the only option is using the Joule's HDMI interface.

Have a nice day.

Hi Leonardo, thanks for your response. I do want to keep the HDMI connection. As per the link you sent, https://software.intel.com/en-us/node/737181 , my difficulty is the HDMI redriver/level shifter on page 16. In order to get the datasheet for this part I need to sign a NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) just to review the specification on this 'redriver/level shifter'. I would like to determine what other 'redriver/level shifter's' are available so I can calculate my bill of material costs.

Do you know of another 'redriver/level shifter' that may be available, perhaps on Digikey? Gener posted about the ADV7613 however that has LVDS on the output which the Joule does not support.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,

If you need the information about the 'redriver/level shifter' you have to contact the manufacturer, just like you did. All the information that we have available is here: https://software.intel.com/en-us/intel-joule-getting-started

About another option, unfortunately we don't have any recommedation for the redriver/level shifter that is used in the Joule.
