Intel Joule 550x supported by Yocto Project?

Jump to solution

If we want to build custom embedded system on Joule, does yocto bitbake supports building image for Joule? If yes, is there more detail about it? Like what MACHINE should be used and where is the correct bsp package to use. Thanks!

It should be possible to use the Intel Joule 550x with Yocto easily, because the 550x contains a Broxton Processor, which is supported by meta-intel since recently (current master, will be Yocto 2.2). The Ostroproject is using that as well as a BSP.

For details see the log of meta-intel linux-yocto regarding Broxton: http://git.yoctoproject.org/cgit/cgit.cgi/meta-intel/log/common/recipes-kernel/linux meta-intel - Layer containing Intel hardware support metadata and the copy of it in ostro-os: https://github.com/ostroproject/ostro-os/tree/master/meta-intel ostro-os/meta-intel at master · ostroproject/ostro-os · GitHub

Hi txh,

The Intel® Joule™ Development Board uses an Ostro™ Project image which is built using Yocto Project tools. Please see https://ostroproject.org/ https://ostroproject.org/ for additional information. Is there a reason why you need to use Yocto bitbake? I am not sure if the BSP is available yet, let me take a look and I will get back to you.

Hi txh,

At this time, the only available product is the 570x and there's no pricing information for the 550x yet. Keep checking the Community and the https://software.intel.com/en-us/iot/hardware/joule Intel Joule website for further information.

There should be nothing stopping you from making it with yocto, note the recipe for the kernel you should look at is in ostro-xt not in ostro-os - https://github.com/ostroproject/ostro-os-xt/blob/master/meta-ostro-xt/recipes-kernel/linux/linux-yoc... ostro-os-xt/linux-yocto_4.4.bbappend at master · ostroproject/ostro-os-xt · GitHub

Hi txh3157,

have you had time to look into this topic so far. I have the same goal and some help would be great!

What layers did you apply? Where patches necessary? Did it work?
