Upon booting from power off from the SD card the grub selection menu comes up, however when ubuntu is selected it goes to login screen and then to initframs prompt.
However, if the sd card is now removed and reinserted and rebooted from initframs prompt then it works fine
Once it boots to Ubuntu, it can be rebooted as many times. Only the cold boot doesn't seem to work.
Tested on multiple sd card clones and the problem persists.
Thanks for your interest in the Intel® Joule™ Platform.
Personally, I don't have too much experience using Ubuntu with the Intel® Joule™. Nevertheless, I found these discussions that might help you figure out why once you boot it ends up on an initramfs console:

I would encourage to ask on https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/community/ Community | Ubuntu developer portal , since they are the developers of this image. They might be able to provide further assistance.
Have a nice day!
