IoT Project

Jump to solution

Hi guys,

I'm really new to Intel Edison and Linux. I just know a little bit of Java and going to learn Android to develop my university project but I do familiar with C/C++ (Arduino IDE).

I want to connect Android device with Edison via Internet (mean access from anywhere in the world, not the WLAN) to read data from sensor and use Android device to send command to control Edison to turn on/off the relays. Which way should I go, please help!

Sorry for the post if it is in the wrong category

Hi NewMech,

I'd love to help you with that. Personally, I think that the best way to do this is using an IoT Cloud, there is a lot of them so you can use whatever you want that adjusts more to your needs.

Normally we use Intel® IoT Analytics ( https://dashboard.us.enableiot.com/ui/auth# /login), so if you want to use this cloud I recommend you to check this guide: https://software.intel.com/en-us/intel-iot-platforms-getting-started-cloud-analytics.

Like you said that you are new with the Edison you can look at these helpful links:

Getting started guide: https://software.intel.com/en-us/get-started-edison-linux

Edison: https://software.intel.com/en-us/iot/hardware/edison

I hope you find this information helpful and good luck with your project.

Regards,

Hi NewMech,

To be honest, I'm not sure if it is possible. I gave you all those links to help you, because you said you are new with the Edison, and IoT Analytics is very helpful to get into the IoT world.

About your application, I think that the best way to do it is setting the Edison as a Web Server, and connect it with your Android application. Please check this link: https://www.hackster.io/jfrankie/control-remote-led-with-arduino-and-android-a59244. The guide is with Arduino but I think you should do almost the same with your Edison.

I hope you find this useful.
