Looks like my Compute Stick's fan has stopped working. Is it eligible for RMA?

Hi,

I think my Intel Compute Stick's fan has stopped working and consequently it overheats and does not work reliably. I usually never turn it off and recently whenever I turn on my TV to use my Compute Stick I sometimes just see a blank screen. No matter what I do, I can't log back into Windows so I have to power it off and turn it back on. The Intel HD Graphics app has also started crashing every now and then.

Long story short:

  • Looks like my Intel Compute Stick's fan has stopped working
  • I haven't kept its box, etc. but I have kept its receipt
  • I purchased it less than 6 months ago

Can I return this to the online store I had purchased it from to be replaced with a new one?

Hi,

There was a message at the bottom of https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24946/Intel-Compute-Stick-App-Update this page that Intel will repair or replace the product under standard warranty process:

Option 2: Replace the Intel Compute Stick under warranty

If you choose not to use the App Update, Intel will repair or replace affected product under the standard warranty process. To obtain warranty replacement, submit an https://servicerequestmgmt.intel.com/webticketui/ Online Service Request.

I submitted a ticket last night and am waiting for their response.

Now this aside, is there anyway to perform a clean install of Windows 8.1 on the stick?

You should receive the replacement Intel® Compute Stick with Windows® 8.1 installed on it.
