Need image for a stk1aw32sc Compute stick

I just bought a compute stick used that is totally wiped. Where can I get an OS image to restore to the unit to make it the same as brand new?

I suggest that you contact Intel Customer Support directly to see if they can help you with this. I seem to remember there being a package to recover it completely but I cannot find it now...

Re: Need image for a stk1aw32sc Compute stick

Hi,

You can try the following if the unit still has the recovery image.

  1. Remove any SD card, if installed.
  2. Press F8 when you see this prompt during boot: F8 to Activate Windows 8.1/10 Recovery Mode.
  3. Select Troubleshoot.
  4. Select Reset your PC, then select Next.
  5. Select just remove my files.
  6. Select Reset to start the restore process.

If this does not work, most likely is that the recovery partition is gone and you will need to try a fresh installation of the operating system but in that case you will need to download an image from Microsoft in order to install it.

You can see http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/intel-compute-stick/000005899.html Supported Operating Systems for Intel® Compute Stick

I hope this information can help you all.

Best regards,

Ivan

Can't do anything until I get the stick in hand, which should be tomorrow.

Re: Need image for a stk1aw32sc Compute stick

There is no OS or recovery partition on the unit. The guy I bought it from wiped it.

It would not detect any OS on any USB drive I tried.

I tried to update the BIOS, but now the unit does not respond at all.

Re: Need image for a stk1aw32sc Compute stick

Hi Mage66,

The only thing that you could try is a bios recovery; please see http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/intel-compute-stick/000005902.html BIOS Recovery Instructions for Intel® Compute Stick

If the bios recovery does not work or if it works but you cannot install and operating system you will need to return the unit.

Please bear in mind that if the pre-installed operating system is wiped it to install an OS of your choice, this is not supported and if it is already done, the warranty is voided.

Regards,

Ivan

Re: Need image for a stk1aw32sc Compute stick

It will not bring up the power-on menu. The OS WAS wiped, that's how I got it. That this somehow violates the warranty is wrong.

The hardware should work to allow me to reload the OS.

Every other computer I've ever worked with my whole life allows you to load an OS. I've been asking for an image to put it back to factory load. I didn't wipe it, the company I bought it from did. I think they sold me a broken unit without telling me it was broken, and the sale was as-is, no returns.

If Intel can't help me get their product working, that would be very bad, and very wrong. I'm not asking for much here.

At this point, you can try to get a replacement for the unit from Intel, you can submit a warranty request at the following link:

Re: Need image for a stk1aw32sc Compute stick

The unit is bricked, and since I'm not the original owner and cannot produce proof of purchase (and the OS has been wiped), the unit will probably not be serviced by Intel under warranty. I'm returning it to the seller for a refund. I might try another at a later time, but the whole experience so far has left a very bad taste in my mouth, and I won't be recommending these units to my friends.

It's a bad design not to have a way to do BIOS recovery in the field when the bios has been corrupted. Most motherboards have a BIOS recovery jumper you can set to fix a corrupted BIOS.

Re: Need image for a stk1aw32sc Compute stick

The way to do a bios recovery for this unit you can see it at the link I provided above, there is no way to have a jumper on this unit for you to remove it and do a bios recovery.

Here is the link for the bios recovery:

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/intel-compute-stick/000005902.html http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/intel-compute-stick/000005902.html

Also, we cannot provide you with an OS image because we don't offer this to the customers, an OS image you will need to get it from Microsoft.

You mentioned that you're buying an used product and we cannot guarantee that an used product will be working 100%, at this point if you wish to buy the Intel® Compute Stick I strongly recommend to buy it from any authorized reseller, for example Amazon, Newegg, Tiger Direct etc.

I'm sorry for the problem you have with this unit.

Best wishes,

Ivan

Re: Need image for a stk1aw32sc Compute stick

I'm returning the unit to the seller for a refund. Based on this experience and the negative reviews, I'll give this product a pass.

Thanks for the attempts to help.
