Power Management in Node.js

Jump to solution

Is there power management capabilities/ instruction sets for Intel Edison in Node.js?

I understand that there are power management options like

1) command-line instruction: shutdown -now

2) command-line instructions: ifconfig wlan0 down

3) Hardware: Press pwr buttom for more than 7s (on Arduino breakout)

Is there a way to accomplish the above using node.js?

Hi noahko,

I haven't seen or tried a set of specific instructions for node.js to control the Edison PMIC, but if you're able to perform Linux commands from your node.js program you should be able to accomplish this easily. In fact, it is first necessary to enable/correct the power management options of the current image. There's a patch that's been available for a while that fixes these issues (https://github.com/01org/edison-linux/commit/149de7abd8829bcc009641e215b53fe89fcf29b2 https://github.com/01org/edison-linux/commit/149de7abd8829bcc009641e215b53fe89fcf29b2). I would suggest you to check this thread for more information on how to make it work /thread/61067 https://communities.intel.com/thread/61067.

Hi Pablo,

I will definitely have to look into implementing the patch. Is it Intel's intention of implementing that patch on the official firmware for the Intel Edison?

It seems like a small enough fix.

Thanks,

Noah

Hi noahko,

This is definitely the plan. As you say, it's a small fix (if I'm not mistaken no more than two lines need to be changed) and it has already been reported. There's no ETA for this fix, but keep checking future images' release notes to check what's been changed in each firmware.
