Hi,
I followed the instructions from the link https://software.intel.com/en-us/installing-the-intel-system-studio-iot-edition https://software.intel.com/en-us/installing-the-intel-system-studio-iot-... to install the ISS for my galileo board. The problem appears for Java SE Dev Kit 8 - I have 32-bit Windows 7 whereas the x64 JDK is needed. 32-bit JDK does not work for ISS while I cannot install x64 JDK on my system. Is there any solution to this common (I suppose...) problem?
Thank you in advance!
JJ

Hi Jacek_J,
The same page states:
You can download the JDK from Oracle at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html. Install the 64-bit JDK (indicated by x64 in the download name), not the 32-bit (x86) version.
so I think there is no workaround for this...
Fernando.

Hello Jacek_J,
As Fernando mentioned, you need to install the 64-bit version of JDK even if you are on a 32-bit machine. Are you having issues installing it?

Hi Fernando and Peter,
Thank you very much for your response and I am sorry for the delay in updating my answer.
Actually, as I know it is impossible to install x64 applications on x86 system, while this is absolutely OK to do this the other way, am I right?
At first, I had a latest x86 JDK installed at my machine but it is not supported in ISS when using iss-iot-launcher:
Next, I tried to install x64 JDK but I was informed by the system that the version of the file is inconsistent with the Windows version. Various x64 JDKs gave the same result. Is there any 'manual' way to trigger the x64 installation or to install other version of ISS?

Hi Fernando,
Thank you for your reply.
As ISS doesn't work for me, is it a good idea to use 'basic' Eclipse for Galileo programming as it doesn't need x64 JDK? ISS is Eclipse-based so it should work, although lots of settings will be probably required to set...

Hi Jacek_J,
If you already know Eclipse, then I think Eclipse would be good...
If you have not used any one of Arduino-Intel XDK-Eclipse I think you should try them in that order and run the minimum (i.e. blink) project so that you will have better idea about each choice. Disclaimer: a) I've been able to solve every (very little) application I've had by using the Arduino IDE, b) I've tried Intel XDK because I think it will be maintained long term as well as I like the idea of server side programming with node, c) I've not tried Eclipse because I've never had to, i.e. no need so far.
HTH,
Fernando.
