As can be viewed, my Compute Stick is running all the latest OS update, drivers and BIOS available, but I can't plug any USB HDD without losing the internet connection. I've tested several drives, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, 2.5", 3.5", with and without external power supply, and the end result is always the same, as soon as I start accessing files on the USB HDD, the WiFi adapter starts acting crazy. There's no signal strength drop on the taskbar indicator, it simply either disconnects or continue showing as connected with full signal, but unable to open any website due to the painful slow speed.
I've tried to uninstall and reinstall all the drivers, did a factory reset on Windows 10 and even replaced the Compute Stick on warranty, but nothing changed, I still can't use an external HDD and have internet connection at the same time.
Is there any trick to solve this issue?
If you are plugging these drives into the USB3 port, the issue is that USB3 utilizes a 2.4GHz signal and this can cause interference with WiFi signals. Now, this was an issue with the FC ICS, but the SC ICS is supposed to be better protected against this. Still, the external device can cause this interference. For starters, what you should try is using a USB extension cable to move the device further away from the ICS. You can also try moving to the USB2 port.
