Has anyone tried out Ubuntu 15.10 on the ICS? If so, could you share if Wifi and Sound is working from the default installation?
Please check the following link for supported operating systems for the Intel® Compute Stick, http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-035602.htm Intel® Compute Stick — Supported Operating Systems. Operating systems other than the ones listed are not supported and do not have drivers available. Installing a different operating system voids the Intel Compute Stick warranty.
Thanks for your reply. I do understand that officially, Intel does not support other Ubuntu versions except for 14.04. I was hoping that someone in the forum has successfully experimented with the latest version as the newer Linux kernels seem to offer better performance.
You can download and save the following packages from canonical.com:
1. Create an Ubuntu 14.0.2 usb stick install and copy the above packages to the root usb stick.
2. Install Ubuntu 14.0.2 on the Intel compute stick and then use the Ubuntu Software Center to install all the deb's from the root of your usb stick.
3. Reboot and you should have networking.
4. Upgrade after that.
If that doesn't work you can get the pre-patched install here: http://liliputing.com/2015/07/install-ubuntu-14-04-lts-on-the-2gb-intel-compute-stick.html http://liliputing.com/2015/07/install-ubuntu-14-04-lts-on-the-2gb-intel-compute-stick.html
If you do the above, you may void Intel support.
Yes install 14.04 first, and install chestersmill packages. You will need to retain the old kernel 3.0.16 for the drivers. Are looking to use the Newer kernel?
I am looking for newer kernels. From what i have read online, Kernel 4.1 and above seems to offer better performance for the ICS. This is the main reason why I would like to try out the newer Ubuntu.
I am trying to put the Ubuntu 15.10 to work with the ics. It is strange that most people avoid this subject. Anyway i posted this:

Plus Ian Morrison claims to solve it because there is no more information.
https://plus.google.com/+IanMORRISON/posts/7BMjUtF9jfm Sound and wifi working in Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily) and also in a backported 4.2.0…
Funny thing: Intel sells but does not give support. I wonder if a new path or version of windows come out and they also do not give support. Time to search for alternatives to Intel....
Am I right to say that Wifi is still not working for Ubuntu 15.10? BTW, the newer kernel is supposed to be "faster", have you noticed any performance improvement?
Thanks for the feedback. I am very eager to try it out, but I need to make sure that both Wifi and Audio must work well. From your earlier link (https://plus.google.com/+IanMORRISON/posts/7BMjUtF9jfm Sound and wifi working in Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily) and also in a backported 4.2.0…), does it mean that Ian Morrison got Ubuntu 15.10 to work? Are you using this version?
Ian announces but does not give "how-to" for other to make it work. At least for now. I managed to make the wifi work (see my askubuntu post) but not the BT. I did not try the audio.
