Use 3G modem on Intel Galileo Gen 2

I'm working on a project and I use Intel Galileo Gen 2 with Yocto Project Linux. I use LAN to connect to Internet but I would want to connect to Internet with 3G USB modem.

I tried using Sakis3G to connect my 3G USB modem with my Intel Galileo and use Internet through it. But I couldn't install it.

I don't want to use any additional hardware or shields, only through software.

Can you suggest and help me to create an Internet connection using 3G USB modem?

Hello ivanivanovv,

Have you tried to set up your Galileo to use Sakis3g by following this guide: http://www.sakis3g.com/ http://www.sakis3g.com/. In case you haven't, you will need to install ppp from source as Sakis3g depends on it, you will be able to get the source from https://ppp.samba.org/ https://ppp.samba.org/. After installing ppp try to follow the guide and let us know how it goes.

I have tried to set up my Galileo to use Sakis3g by following their http://www.sakis3g.com/ guide. And I have ppp. When I get to the point where I should launch Sakis3g with ./sakis3g --interactive I get this:

sh-4.2# ./sakis3g --interactive

head: invalid option -- 1

BusyBox v1.20.2 (2014-10-16 16:03:10 PDT) multi-call binary.

Usage: head [OPTIONS] [FILE]...

head: invalid option -- 1

BusyBox v1.20.2 (2014-10-16 16:03:10 PDT) multi-call binary.

Usage: head [OPTIONS] [FILE]...

tar: invalid tar magic

I just tried it on my Galileo Gen 2 using the eglibc image and after instaling ppp I was able to run ./sakis3g --interactive without issue, however I don't have access to a 3G USB modem to test if it works. How did you install ppp and Sakis3g?

I'm using the http://downloadmirror.intel.com/24355/eng/SDCard.1.0.4.tar.bz2 SD-Card Linux* Image and I already have ppp installed. I followed the steps in http://www.sakis3g.com/ Sakis3g | Script for 3G modems to install sakis3g. (copied sakis3g.tar.gz to my SD card //wget didn't worked// ; tar -xzvf sakis3g.tar.gz ; chmod +x sakis3g ; ./sakis3g --interactive)

And I get the same error again and again. I formatted the SD card and tried but I couldn't make it again...

In that case I'd suggest you to try it again but using the eglibc image which can be found in https://software.intel.com/en-us/iot/hardware/galileo/downloads https://software.intel.com/en-us/iot/hardware/galileo/downloads. Try it and let us know how it goes.

Ok I'll try but I read that I can't use Arduino sketches with the eglibc image. I want to use Arduino sketch because I want to send some sensor data to web app and I want to use 3g connection. Do you know if I can use Arduino sketch which will start when I restart my Galileo?

I've did and it worked. It is the "usual" behavior, no need of doing anything else.
