WIFI auto-connect

Hello everyone, i just want my Intel Edison to connect automatically to a WiFi after configuring it using putty

- i use configure_edison --Wifi to connect to a network and it gives back the IP address

- i want to ssh using the ip address, so i want edison after reconnecting to automatically connect to the given wifi

so is it possible to save the configuration and when i plug it in again to connect with same IP ?

Hi,

If you flash your Edison with the latest image you should see that behavior. If you configure WiFi you should be able to auto connect after a reboot. However, if your router settings are set to give IP addresses through DHCP you may not always connect with the same IP. If you want to connect always to the same IP you'd need to set an static IP. Look at http://pagealh.com/2015/09/12/getting-started-with-edison-static-ip-address/ http://pagealh.com/2015/09/12/getting-started-with-edison-static-ip-address/ for some suggestions on how to set an static IP.

The feature to reconnect automatically is not only enabled in the latest image, it's also available in some of the older versions as well. What version are you using, you can check with configure_edison –version.

Hi Serigio,

I want to know if my edison with image https://downloadcenter.intel.com/downloads/eula/24910/Intel-Edison-Software-Release-2-1?httpDown=htt... 146 (ww18-15) could reconnect wifi automatically? It seems it could auto-connect sometimes, but not stable. Maybe it's due to my campus wifi.

Thanks,

Lane.

Under what conditions is it not reconnecting automatically? When connected, is the condition not stable, do you have any logs or see failed ping requests?

Hi Serigio,

Thanks for your reply. I think it was because that I connected to the campus wifi (need to input username and password). When I connected the wireless router wifi, it was no problem to auto-connect next time after i reboot.

Thanks,

Lane
