Wifi very slow on Edison board

Jump to solution

Hello everybody

I have problems with wifi under Brillo on Edison.

It runs very slow (ping to router about 3 sec).

I've tried on Intel Linux (3.10.17-poky-edison+)

Problem is the same (ping about 1000ms to 3000ms).

There are no errors in dmesg..

Do You know how to fix it?

regards

Tomasz Lach

Did you connect an external Wi-Fi antenna?

The built-in ceramic antenna is not powerful enough.

Yes, it has to do with power management.

Try this command:

iwconfig wlan0 power off

Hello TLach22,

I agree with Frederick Blais but it may also be related to the network you are connecting. Does this happen on every network you connect to? Or have only tested it on a single network? In case it's the latter could you try to test it on another network, what happens?

Thanks for reply

It works!

External antena helped.

Internal must be very week - it is 1m to router.

Hello, I have a socket open between my laptop(SuracePro3 w/Windows10) and the Edison in python. It looks ok with total time between packages at around 10ms, not lightening fast, but not bad. The issue I have is that randomly it hangs, taking anywhere from .1 to 4 seconds to resume transmission. Thought it was windows searching for more networks, hogging the adapter card but I tested the python scripts both on my laptop, acting as both server and client and I had no hiccups.

I have read in many places that there are two versions of the Intel Edison, one with an antenna on board and one without. Both have the external antenna adapter, though the docs say it that the onboard version is not usable for an external antenna. You and one other post I found says they have succeeded in using an external antenna.

Here is what I have found so far in regards to this

So is it still working for you? Are you sure the external antenna is giving you a boost, do you happen to observe this hiccup I am experiencing, and most importantly is the Edison still functioning?

Thanks.

Yes it still works OK. When I disconnect ext antenna - I have ping 500ms - 1500ms.

After connection - 5ms.

I have Edison FZED 552D 01DK4 501
