I tried to update my compute stick to win 10, but update failed.
After installation it just asked those location and language questions said just a moment, reboot and started asking those questions again.
Restore (F8) just throws 0xC0000225 error and if I try to install Win 8.1 from USB the product key (got it with linux strings command) is not valid.
Now I have installed ubuntu to that stick to use it some way.
Is there some special windows 8.1 image I should use or what should I do to get windows back?
Before two weeks decided to bye this HDMI stick with Windows 10. Yesterday after upgrade number 3, Windows don't want to up. Tried to backup to Windows 8.1 as suggested in boot menu, but return to same display with error. Don't know what to do and from where wait the help.
Did you buy the WIndows or Linux version of the stick? (there are 2 versions, Linux version is for Linux only, the Windows one can be upgraded to Windows 10.
Whats the stick part number?
Windows version with preinstalled Windows 8.1 (BOXSTCK1A32WFC)
I have been worked as software engineer over 15 years and have computers since VIC 20 at early 80's (so I kind of know what I'm doing).
The problem was that I thought I can update it normally, but with this stick if you select load updates in update process it will brick the stick...
I already contacted Intel support and only way to fix this shi... stick is to get replacement from supplier :/
Or of course I could by a windows license and install it (maybe), but why should I pay for something I already have paid for...
That is the reason I build my computers by myself and don't by any bundled shit.
I have the same hardware, that was bricked, i followed Intel's instructions of how to re-image the system after the wrong firmware was used to upgrade the WIndows 10 (with a download of 10 HOME on a USB stick. However i used the F8 recovery to "repair" a complete install, mst of the F8 features didnt work, however there was enough to start a new install off with the same key that was installed to the system.
Any other install will loose the key, it re-formatted the disk (i still have the F8 option) however read the disk first then told me i wouild loose all data, however i didnt need an install key.
Throwing working years around i have been a network specialist for over 20 years (since 1994) and doing computers 10 years before that. I am also an Intel Partner.
Thank you for joining the Intel communities.
I'm sorry for the issues you all have with ICS.
Maxa unfortunately if the partition for Windows 8.1 recovery image is gone we don't have another one to provide, at this point if the partition is gone I would suggest to replace the unit, you can submit a warranty replacement at the following link:
We have seen positive experience with the Windows 10 update, you can see it here:
If you all have problems recovering to Windows 8.1 I would recommend the following troubleshooting steps as it has worked for other customers.
