Dear Friends
Here is a test release based on Kernel 4.7-rc4. It does boot Edison. You can test it here.
https://github.com/atlury/Intel-Edison-OS-Images/releases/tag/AlpineLinux-3.4.0-Mainline-Kernel github.com/atlury/Intel-Edison-OS-Images/releases/tag/AlpineLinux-3.4.0-Mainline-Kernel
(a) There is mainline support for SDIO based wifi+bluetooth 43221 in kernel now however I havent enabled it yet
(b) The watch-dog isnt managed yet so it reboots every 30 secs
(c) Have to see how to enable support external microsd-card reader.
This should be pretty good once those above things start working in mainline...
Thanks to Andy Shevchenk at https://github.com/andy-shev/linux/tree/eds github.com/andy-shev/linux/tree/eds

You are welcome.
Btw, (b) is not correct. You have to enable appropriate driver.
