Hi gau999,

Thanks for your interest in the Intel Edison Platform.

Yes, you are right this service is free! It shouldn't ask for your debit card information, could you be so kind to provide me the guide that you are following, in order to set the AWS service.

I will be waiting for your reply, have a nice day!

Best Regards,

i'm working on intel edison wifi , i'm trying to connect AWS IOT services using MQTT for intel edison for that i have done initial AWS set up and installed AWS CLI ,but getting problem while "creating new device" . it is giving error as "cloud can not connect to the end point URL:https://iot.asia.pacific.amazonaws.com/things/edison1 https://iot.asia.pacific.amazonaws.com/things/edison1" , i have tried by changing with different regions but it is giving same error.

Hi gau999,

The reason they asked for your credit card information, is because this service is only free for one year, after this they will start charging you. Please click in "Frequently Asked Questions" and you will see the following image:

This might help you understand better the service that Amazon provides.

Hope you find this information useful, have a nice day!

Hi gau999,

I don't see a section called "connect AWS IOT services using MQTT for intel edison" in the guide that you provided https://www.hackster.io/jinman/build-a-connected-maraca-with-aws-and-intel-edison-a4010e Build a connected maraca with AWS and Intel Edison - Hackster.io , I guess that you are following this guide: https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/connecting-to-amazon-web-services-aws-iot-using-mqtt Connecting to Amazon* Web Services* (AWS*) IoT using MQTT | Intel® Software . If you are, could you tell me in which step the error "cloud can not connect to the end point URL:https://iot.asia.pacific.amazonaws.com/things/edison1 https://iot.asia.pacific.amazonaws.com/things/edison1" was presented.

If you aren't following this guide https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/connecting-to-amazon-web-services-aws-iot-using-mqtt Connecting to Amazon* Web Services* (AWS*) IoT using MQTT | Intel® Software , please let me know which guide you are using, in order to assist you in the best way possible.

Have a nice day!

Hello sir ,

thanks for reply

i'm using same guide as you mentioned, link as below

https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/connecting-to-amazon-web-services-aws-iot-using-mqtt https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/connecting-to-amazon-web-services-aws-iot-using-mqtt

in this guide "Create a new device" section, in that when i executes the command "aws iot create-thing --thing-name "edison1" " it gives me error as

"cloud can not connect to the end point URL:https://iot.asia.pacific.amazonaws.com/things/edison1 https://iot.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com/things/edison1" , i have tried by changing with different regions but it is giving same error.

i have open account for asia pacific region (mumbai) so that while configuring i'm selecting region "ap-south-1" in command prompt.

Hi gau999,

Analyzing your error, it seems that it is triggered when you haven't configured your AWS credentials, please see the image below:

Please verify that you are using the right credentials of your account, if you don't know how to acquire this information. Follow this guide https://seeeddoc.github.io/Intel-Edison_and_Grove_IoT_Starter_Kit_Powered_by_AWS/ Intel® Edison and Grove IoT Starter Kit Powered by AWS where it explains better how to obtain them.

Please let me know your results, have a nice day!

Hi gau999,

If you are currently at step 6, I have to assume that you had no errors going through steps 1-5. What happens when you click in "Create a resource"? Please see the image below:

Now, regarding the command not being recognized in your Edison, did you install the AWS CLI in your Edison? If you didn't, please follow the steps in this guide: https://seeeddoc.github.io/Intel-Edison_and_Grove_IoT_Starter_Kit_Powered_by_AWS/ Intel® Edison and Grove IoT Starter Kit Powered by AWS . See the image below:

I will be waiting for your reply, have a nice day!

Hi gau999,

It seems like the errors you are having, are due to your AWS account not been activated. Please check that you provided all the information necessary to complete your registration, if this issue continues, please contact the AWS support.

Hello sir,

Hi gau999,

Unfortunately, it is necessary to give your credit card information in order to activate your account. Like I mention before you don't have to worry about charges, since this service is free. They will start charging you after a year of being used this service, also there is a possibility to program alarms in order to delete your account, so they won't charge you. Please see the image below:

Have a nice day!

Hi gau999,

I'm glad to know that your AWS is working fine! I have one question, did you have any errors in the previous steps of this guide https://seeeddoc.github.io/Intel-Edison_and_Grove_IoT_Starter_Kit_Powered_by_AWS/ Intel® Edison and Grove IoT Starter Kit Powered by AWS ?

Also make sure that you provided the right information in awsIot.thingShadow({}), see the image below:

One more thing, when you "Created a Thing" in your AWS IoT, how did you name it? Did you name it EdisonDemo?

I will be waiting for your reply, have a nice day!

Best Regards,

Hello sir,

Thanks for reply,

the previous error while Creating a nodejs project command "npm install --save aws-iot-device-sdk":

received an error as shown in img below.

second problem while running.

i have created the awsIot.thingShadow({}) thingname as EdisonDemo, and gave the client ID as well as region name.

But while running node main.js command it again shows me readable stream error as shown in img below.

waiting for your reply

Hi gau999,

It seems like you are having issues installing the AWS IoT for JavaScript, please follow the installation instructions in this guide https://github.com/aws/aws-iot-device-sdk-js GitHub - aws/aws-iot-device-sdk-js: SDK for connecting to AWS IoT from a device using JavaScript/Node.js and let me know your results.

Hope this helps, have a great weekend!
